Halloween Party

Every year, my church has a Halloween party on the Friday before Halloween in order to provide a creeper-free environment for kids to mooch candy. I made a dress out of silk leaves and went as mother nature.

And of course I was barefoot. I mean, come on, it's me.

[40058.jpg]

I put my brother on camera duty and told him to just snap pictures of anything and everything. He went above and beyond the call of duty and caught me checking out a cute guy across the room dressed like Edward Cullen.

The party was set up as a two act deal: First a potluck dinner, then "trunk"-or-treat. All of the adults parked their cars along the sidewalk and handed out candy from the trunks of their cars. It was a couple degrees below zero out there, so I donned Boyfriend's hoodie before heading out.

I haven't been trick-or-treating in a decade, and my brother didn't want to go by himself, so I went with him. Somehow I was already on a sugar high and I'm not quite sure how I convinced people my age to give me candy.

I'm not sure how my brother got candy either. He wasn't even wearing a costume. I told him to tell people he was Justin Beiber because they both have that same perfectly coiffed hair. He told me "no" with a punch to the arm. He decided to tell people that he thought being himself would be scary enough.

[40062.jpg]

We made our rounds, using the pouch-like pocket on Boyfriend's hoodie to hold our spoils as we collected them. At some point, someone made the mistake of giving me a gummy worm.

[40063.jpg]

I reached my point of no return when I saw the glow sticks, though. I seriously LOVE glow sticks. No lie, I have a collection of more than 50 of them that I have collected over the last few years at various parties and shows. When the lady at this car gave me two more to add to that collection, my hyperness reached an all new level and my brother made the executive decision to get me out of there, and fast.

[40064.jpg]

I somehow found my way to another party and ended up going to watch Brother Bear 2 with a dozen people I had just met. We spent the rest of the night eating chocolate and Nerds, and finally went home at 3am and passed out on my couch. I woke up with a sugar hangover, which doesn't seem like it should be possible, but since I didn't consume any alcohol, that's the only logical explanation I can come up with.

So that's my exciting party story. How are all y'all's Halloween weekends so far?

I was walking through frost covered grass at 3am during my epic sugar high... and I didn't feel any cold at all. My feet are awesome like that.

It's a cute, very original costume that you made! I am sure people was surprised to see you barefoot in such cold weather.
