A throwback to my high school fashion sense

In a recent conversation with Boyfriend, he told me, "I hate that you've become a prep. I miss how you dressed in high school when you were goth." And he's right - as I've progressed over the last three years, I've started dressing more and more classy. It's my job's fault, I swear. I'm a chef, and I'm around fancily dressed people all day, so it makes me dress better by association. I took Boyfriend's words to heart though. When I went shopping for birthday presents for him and my best friend (their birthdays are only 10 days apart), I tried to find outfits that were reminiscent of my high school days but were still true to the professional business-class woman I've become.

I found this way cute dress in Banana Republic. I freaking love that store!

This is probably an outfit I would wear to work, but it wasn't true to who I was in high school. I kept looking.

This one is more fitted and I'm pretty sure I had a top almost exactly like this in high school. I'm in love.

This is the point where my best friend would step in and tell me to stop trying on black stuff, but at the same time she wouldn't be able to deny how freaking awesome I look in that pencil skirt.

This one was my favorite outfit. The top perfectly exemplifies my high school character, while the skirt keeps it professional and classy. I'm about 80% sure this outfit is going to be annexed to my closet come payday.

All that shopping was wearing me out, so I stopped in at the food court to get one of my favorite beverages in the world - Orange Julius! Seriously, I adore them so much. Every good memory from my childhood and early teen-hood can be traced back to this drink. Ask me about it sometime. I could go on for hours.

Anyways, while I was drinking my orgasmically awesome Orange Julius, some guy came up to me and was like, "Woah, you're barefoot!" and then talked to me for the next few minutes about how awesome it was. I was entertained. I still forget how unusual it is to be barefoot, since it's so normal for me. It would be about the same effect for me to go up to someone and say, "Awesome, you're wearing shoes!"

I had him take a picture of me and directed him to both this site and my fanpage on facebook. Then I felt weird and awkward because I ran out of things to say, so I left to go find more clothes to try on.

This outfit is the closest thing to my true high school style that I could find in the West Ed Mall. I must say, I'm a little disappointed in their selection. Where are my good ol' Tripp pants that I wore every day only half a decade ago? Eh, se la vie. This venture reminded me of why I stopped wearing clothes like that though. I like who I am now, as opposed to who I was in high school. Back then I was a sad, scared little girl who tried to barricade people out and hide her pain. Now I am a strong, confident woman who has worked through her past and can happily move on. I don't need to hide between chains and armwarmers. Those scars have healed and my smile is genuine now. I highly doubt I'll ever stop wearing black, though.

PS, I have cute toes!

That would totally be awesome. Too bad that dress costs the equivalent of two entire days of work... One of these days when I marry Boyfriend and he becomes a super awesome brain surgeon, I'll be able to afford to actually shop at Banana Republic.

Cool update Sierra! Those dresses fit you great! Perfect, very elegant combination specially in bare feet. The Orange Julius looks tasty, good it makes you so happy.

Hope to see you making the dares soon, it will be cool to see you walking, dancing and jumping barefoot on the broken glass, listening to the sound of the shards breaking under your bare soles as you talk and tell us how it is. And also that you slowly roast the soles of your feet, I wonder how long you can take it, wow!

PS: Yes, you have cute toes!
